About
Thula Mama is a harmony singing group for mothers and their new babies, drawing on songs and chants from around the globe for an uplifting experience in a friendly community of Mamas.

No particular singing ability or experience is necessary, and songs are passed on orally, so no need to read music.

"We are all born with a voice. When it is heard, it says something vital about the deepest layers of our identity, our commitment and aspirations."

A mothers voice, the most wonderful thing in the world.

Community
I often find Mums form a supportive community in which they can find like minded women to share and laugh with. This community is about acceptance, inclusion and shared experiences, about support and honesty. It is as much about our collective and individual struggles as it is about our quests to accept and overcome them, and in meaningful ways - about the love we have for our babies, for each other, and the love we can show to ourselves.
Now more than ever is a time to reach out and lovingly connect with others, but also reach in and lovingly connect with ourselves.

Thula Mama is a fantastic singing group which I look forward to every week. Ruth is a truly amazing teacher with a very gentle approach as well as an inspiring singing voice. The songs are all very moving and uplifting and meaningful for mothers: they make you feel part of a bigger, worldwide community of parents and children, they make you feel happy, they make you feel like you are not alone. I wish I could go to Thula Mama every day! I would recommend Thula Mama to any mum looking for some space for herself as well as a very powerful bonding experience with her baby.

Thula Mama has been the best group for my daughter and I. I look forward to every Friday. Its a place where I enjoy singing and being with other like minded mums and my daughter can benefit from the beautiful songs and hanging out with other babes. I throughly recommend Ruth too! She provides a relaxed and supportive space where you can be yourself and a mother all at the same time! My only quibble is that at some point i'll have to return to work and will no longer be able to attend...Thank you Thula Mama Exeter!!!

Carilyn

What a fabulous sing we have every Friday, it's the highlight of mine and baby Austin's week. Beautiful songs, cleverly taught by Ruth in a relaxed atmosphere with lots of chat, laughter and cake! I'd definitely recommend to anyone who love singing (and cake!).

Lorraine

I love Thula Mama and miss it so much! Singing with Ruth and the other Mamas really lifted my spirits, it was brilliant therapy and I looked forward to it every week. My wee boy loved it too. He loves when I sing the songs at home now too.
