Taiko Journey
Taiko Journey nurtures community well-being through taiko drumming.
Manifesting the power of connection with self and others, Taiko Journey empowers people to believe in themselves and unlock their potential through rhythm, movement, and joy.
Taiko Journey supports everyone to forge a path to personal empowerment, to feel a sense of belonging and to find their rhythm, as we journey together through the experience of taiko drumming.
Taiko Journey runs public classes & workshops, offers taiko experiences in schools, runs taiko team building events for businesses, and works with organisations wanting to facilitate deep transformational change for their service users.
Taiko Journey also nurtures the Taiko Journey Collective – a drumming collective that performs locally, and Zassō – a taiko performance project that explores collaboration and co-creation with local artists.
Ruth now plays, teaches and supports at Taiko Journey alongside Hannah-Jasmine. Follow the links to join us in weekly classes in Kenn or at a workshop in the Devon area.

Taiko Journey has for a long time been curious about the intersection of movement, dance, and taiko drumming. We now offer this one off workshop, introducing taiko to movement enthusiasts, creating opportunities for them to forge new connections and engage in playful exploration. We hope to offer movement practitioners a fresh perspective on music and rhythm, expanding their practice and making new connections both personally and artistically.
The session will be hosted and run by HJ Brunskill, Ruth Janssen, and potentially Kay Crook (depending on availability). For those who were involved in Kay’s recent performance of a feminist retelling of Ophelia in Newton Abbot with Chhaya you’ll have seen, heard and felt the beginnings of this exploration between HJ, Ruth & Kay.
